Enjoy Bulgaria Holidays

By Harry Mikes

When you are looking for something different to do on vacation, heading into Europe may not seem the first choice for many. However, with holidays to ex-communist Bulgaria becoming increasingly popular, this could be just the right decision for your family break.

The first thing you notice with Bulgaria, (other than the affordability of everything that is), is its traditions and customs which are welcomingly retained wherever your travel; even in the capital city of Sofia.

Bordered on three sides by Rumania, Serbia and Macedonia and Greece and Turkey, Bulgaria clings to the underside of Europe with a distinctive Mediterranean feel.

Bulgaria holidays can be best enjoyed through the months of May and September; where the climate is warm with a cooling breeze coming of the Med. In fact, Bulgaria is well placed and does not suffer too much with extremes in its weather; except through winter; where freezing temperatures make for superb skiing.

No matter the time of year of your visit though, you will be delighted by the cost of accommodation across the country. Whilst boutique hotels will cost around one hundred bucks a night, hostels can be found for little more than five dollars a day. There are also a host of more mainstream hotels to choose from at better than reasonable rates

For those hoping to find their local pizza and burger bars, there may be disappointment. But with the food influenced by eastern and Mediterranean flavors; reaching for a quarter pounder with cheese would seem strange anyway! When trying the local poison; give Mastika and Rakia a go... But do be very careful!

No matter the time of year for Bulgaria holidays; you are sure of an adventure and an experience that few places can now offer; particularly throughout the increasingly homogenized eastern Europe.
